Family is family

I’ve been doing more work with families recently, and totally love it. The opportunities I’ve had to travel in recent years has also shown me that it doesn’t matter how different circumstances can be, family is family. I was reminded of this over the weekend as I was trawling through some of the images I have captured while visiting other countries and spending time among other cultures. The below images were taken in Indonesia of a family that lived alongside railway tracks that run through the provincial capital of West Java. I was simply passing by and they were happy to volunteer for an impromptu family picture outside their home that lay just a matter of feet from the edge of the iron tracks.

Family Shoot @ Point Cartwright

My friends Ben and Alicia warned me Lissette was teething. As you can see, she’s a cutie and with the help of the ‘grown-ups’ dancing around, making strange sounds and desperately waving her favourite toy, Lissette turned on the smiles for our late afternoon winter shoot at Point Cartwright not too long ago on the Sunshine Coast.  It was a perfect afternoon with clear skies and a light breeze and the warm hue of the afternoon sunset.

Get amongst the good stuff

The weekend is here and all I can say is, “enjoy”.

I took this image a few years ago at a fresh market in Israel’s vibrant city of Tel Aviv. This market showcased to me many of the things that I enjoy most about the weekends – good food, good places, and good people (not necessarily in that order). I took this image using 120mm film on a 1970′s medium-format camera that despite its weight and bulkiness has become a favourite for various personal projects, some of which I’ll feature from time to time on this blog. More importantly, this image reminds of some of those simple things I enjoy about weekends, so enjoy and get amongst the good stuff this weekend.
